Thanks to your support, the Brick-by-Brick campaign has raised over $35,000 towards our goal of $60,000.

A year ago, SHLF made a weighted commitment to respond to the Earthquake. Our stakeholders discussed, at length, the prospects of stepping into the 'disaster relief' space and the long-term implications of such a challenge. SHLF determined we have a moral obligation to support our existing partners to the best of our abilities and that helping re-build this particular facitlity is fundamental to providing sports and education, thus well within our mission.

SHLF supporters and friends have shown their outstanding support and have raised more than $35,000 for this initiative specifically.  As of the one-year anniversary of the tragedy, SHLF has transferred $30,000 to begin the building of the wall, and remain focused on achieving our original goal of $60,000 needed to complete the wall.

“2010 has been unlike anything I have ever seen. First the Earthquake, an entire community turned to refugees, then a tragic accident that killed 8 LADH members, floods and now cholera and the elections. We have continued to provide sports and tutoring throughout it all, most of the time not knowing what will happen next or how we will be able to react,” describes Bobby Duval. “We hope to get back to normal at some point. And to think we thought it was tough before!”

“Re-building the wall remains an important step in restoring a sense of normalcy and security amid chaos. Right now the fields are open to the public and the kids are often disrupted by people from the outside. Also, the wall would have been instrumental in diverting flooding during the rainy season.”

Re-building in Haiti has been widely criticized as slow, ineffective and corrupt. SHLF would like to assure all supporters that we take our fiduciary responsibility to our donors very seriously and are committed to transparency and accountability. All funds directed to Haiti and otherwise must be reported on and accounted for in detail.

SHLF further recognizes the importance of recognizing and supporting real heroes doing life-changing work and firmly supports LADH.  In them, we have found a true champion, led by people who have made countless personal sacrifices to make a difference.
