VANIER CUP/GREY CUP WEEKEND

During Grey Cup week in Toronto over 500 people participated in a series of Strachan Hartley Legacy Foundation events that raised over $5000 and provided great exposure for the Foundation. As with many of the events so far, the numbers are only a small piece of the success. The greatest achievement continues to be the enthusiasm and support shown by the many people involved. There is nothing greater than knowing that Strachan is remembered well and that so many people are committed to staying involved in keeping his legacy alive and making a difference in people’s lives.

The Canadian Interuniversity Sports showed tremendous support of the Foundation. At the All-Canadian Banquet, The Score put together and aired a brilliant and moving 7-minute feature about Strachan. The feature was shown at the prestigious banquet in front of 400 players, award winners, coaches, athletic directors, administrators and past winners and Foundation representatives Aimee-Noel Hartley and John MacDonald spoke about the initiative in a very moving presentation.

The Grey Cup Extravaganza event held pre-game at Tortilla Flats was yet another successful event that featured great company, atmosphere, food and a raffle. Football alumni from around the country joined together to rally behind the Foundation and to honour the life of one of their own. The quality of the people involved and the potential of what they can contribute and achieve is the greatest gift and the reason to believe in this Foundation. Our mission is sound and our commitment infallible, but it will be these people that will determine our capacity for success. For an excellent account of the events, read the article by James Deacon, originally posted on AOL Sports.
