SHLF's Montreal partner Bouncing Boys Back to School, a summer basketball and literacy program, came to a close yesterday after another successful edition. The program, run by Westmount Park Primary School teachers Suzanne Drouin and Pamela Price, was created specifically for young boys at the school who have been identified by their teachers as below their reading levels. The programme mixes basketball and literacy activities and utilizes a double-tiered peer mentor approach with male role models as coaches as well as partnerships between older and younger boys within the programme.
Last year's program included a 'mystery' theme and culminated in the boys writing their own mystery stories, while this year, the boys combined literacy and graphic art to each create their own comic strips. Titles included - The Camping Heros, Save the Dinosaurs and The FIFA World Cup Robbery.
Congratulations Suzanne and Pamela on yet another successful year. We are proud to support his important initiative and look forward to more success stories in the future.
