Every year the Strachan Hartley Legacy Foundation donates a scholarship to a deserving Handsworth Secondary School graduate. The criteria are excellence in academics, athletics, community leadership and financial need. The scholarship is valued at $1,000.

The 2010 scholarship was awarded to Diana Lee, an under-sized basketball player who, among other things, led her team to a AAA Provincial Championships despite a fractured foot.  Given that Diana received a full scholarship to Boise State University in Idaho to play basketball, she wrote the letter below to SHLF and asked that the scholarship award be donated back to youth who need it more than she does.

What an overwhelming gesture by an outstanding young leader. Diana, you are a true testament to the character we all hope to espouse. Your family and community ought to be very proud and we are humbled to welcome you into the extended SHLF family.

Basketball season is here not. Best of luck in Boise and Go Broncos!
