Throughout my life, I had been blessed with parents I could count on, friends who picked me up when I was down and a community who cared. After being in the workforce for a few years and interacting with different people from different cultures, I quickly realized not everyone had the same opportunities as I did - It seems Strachan felt the same way.
From my perspective, there are two ways which you can become actively involved with your community – Politics or Non-Profit. Working with a talented and driven group that is focused on improving the community and allowing underprivileged youth the opportunity to fulfill their potential is simply fulfilling. What is great about SHLF is that it is small enough that your ideas, thoughts and drive influence the organization tremendously. You are not only a part of fundraising initiatives but also have the ability to decide where the money is dispersed. In addition to being intimately involved with the process, it is great to work with a non-profit that gives away 100% of what is raised – you know every ounce of sweat and time is not being sucked up by administrative fees.
As you start to get older, you realize life is not about yourself anymore but trying to make a difference for the next generation that will come and fill your place. Being involved with SHLF foundation has allowed me to not only learn and meet so many fantastic people but filled that void of giving back.
I can't recommend it highly enough. Please consider getting involved and joining a Committee.
