Strachan was the eldest of the four Hartley children and set the standard for the whole family.
Often recognized for his intensity and drive for excellence, Strachan always had a keen sense of humour.
Strachan was almost the same size at age 14 as he was at age 30. He definitely used it to his advantage around the household!
Strachan excelled at many sports and was pushed by equally talented friends and teammates. Of this highschool photo, all 5 players went on to compete collegiately
Handsworth graduates that went on to play for the UBC Thunderbirds.
Strachan was a co-captain of 1997 National CIAU Football Champions.
While completing a Masters Degree in cancer research, Strachan played two years with the McGill Redmen.
Strachan and brother Wyatt only played against each other once in 2000 McGill vs Queens played in Montreal. The two never came head to head despite Wyatt playing running back and Strachan defensive back. McGill won, but Wyatt scored Queens' touchdown.
2001 McGill football seniors (Strachan, #8). McGill football has shown themselves to be a strong community, with many of these players remaining active members of SHLF Committees.
In 2002, Strachan was accepted into McGill medical school. He met his wife-to-be Chloe in the first semester.
Strachan received his diagnosis in November 2005 while on an orthopedic surgery rotation in his home town of Vancouver.
While undergoing chemo and radiation therapy, Strachan managed to graduate in the Top 15% of his class.
Strachan and Chloe were wed May 26, 2007 in an incredible ceremony. Six weeks later, Strachan's battle with cancer would come to an end.
